Twelve volunteers collected 38 bags of trash at Saturday’s Arakawa river clean up, which was a joint event with TRF and Kawanote Fan Club. Some early efforts were made in front of the pods with the tide very low at 13:00, and then having many experienced participants allowed us to split the group to clean both the front corner and the back corner as well as walking along the pods. We started earlier due to an that evening and were quickly reminded why the summer schedule should be later afternoon. It was hot. Thanks to everyone for braving the heat and making a great effort for a big result. We had previously cleaned this entire section as well as 7 or 8 cleanings this year of the front and back of this first pod section, so these 38 bags (plus another 15 or so we did not get at the base of the pods–next month’s target) represent about one month of new accumulation, or it seems like 50+ bags accumulate every month at this location, which is notorious for being the dirtiest spot on the Arakawa River.
