Eight volunteers collected 26 bags of trash at yesterday’s Arakawa River clean up event. As the river reeds have grown back in the pods, we have basically moved to our summer schedule of cleaning under the C2 highway, which provides shade and rain cover too. We cleaned in front of the boat racing area where spectators often leave trash. Having taken about 300 bags of trash from this area 2 years ago in 6 or 7 events, today’s 25 bags were new accumulation. With the bulk of it already gone we were able to make progress almost to the end and will continue moving upstream in future events this summer. As there was some boating racing or trials of some sort going on, participants were able to enjoy watching the boats race. Mina-san otsukaresama!
