Twelve volunteers collected 47 bags of trash at today’s Edogawa River clean up event (27 actual bags + roughly equivalent of 20 bags for the large unbagged items). It was beautiful near perfect weather + plus a large turnout + a couple of very dirty patches = a large collection today. An Ichikawa City Councilwoman, Ms. Kaori Fuke, joined our event today. Recently there had been some problems behind the scenes with the river office and the Ichikawa City trash office wanting to stop collections from out events, but Ms. Fuke contacted Chiba prefectural assemblyman, Mr. Kotaro Tanaka, representing the Ichikawa area and he swiftly convened a meeting with a secretary for a member of parliament, Ms. Eri Arfiya and the river office. The problem was quickly resolved and trash collections have resumed. I was very surprised at how responsive area politicians were to the TRF request for assistance and cannot thank all of them enough for their invaluable support.
