Arakawa River Clean Up (Funabori) on World Clean Up Day

September 20 @ 1:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Tokyo River Friends will be participating in the “World Cleanup Day” event again this year! This marks our third year of involvement, and we’ll be joining the official “World Cleanup Day” on Saturday, September 20, as designated by the United Nations.

On this day, cleanup activities will take place all around the world. We plan to share photos and updates from our event on social media to help energize this global movement.

SCHEDULE
Gather at FUNABORI Station: 13:00
Gather riverside 13:30
Finishing up: 17:30

RIVER CLEAN UP
Gather at FUNABORI Station (Shinjuku Line) outside the only ticket gate, and then go to the Arakawa River and pick up trash along the banks for about about 3 5 to 4 hours with a break in the middle

WHAT TO BRING
Wear old clothing that you do not mind getting dirty, and please wear long pants. Bare legs are not recommended because they can easily get cut from objects like cut river reeds. Also, a hat is recommended, especially during the summer months, and please bring lots of liquids to drink. Bringing gloves is also recommended but we usually have some extra pairs available to loan out.

ADDITIONAL INFO:
If you come late, it will be about a 25 min. walk to our location on the island under the elevated C2 highway between the Kasaibashi Bridge iand the Shinjuku Line train bridge but much closer to the Shinjjuk Line Bridge. Call my cell phone 090-1847-5075 if there are any problems finding us.

RAIN:
In the event of light or medium rain this event will NOT be cancelled. Please bring rain gear and we will take shelter (under a bridge) until any downpours let up. In the event of heavy rain/strong winds (e.g., typhoon conditions) or lightning then the event will be cancelled (and usually moved to a different day).

Let’s have fun enjoying our local nature while making it better at the same time.
