Seventeen volunteers turned for today’s Arakawa River clean up event at Funabori and collected 23 bags of trash. We ran into several problems today that led to a lower than usual collection. Mainly that was the tide being high and limiting areas where we could clean. Most participant were newcomers and didn’t have the right boots to get into the water, so we tried cleaning on the pods, which was a bit tougher cleaning but still necessary. Then a beautiful day all morning turned into some light rain just as we got started and then some lightning in the distance, so that delayed things we waited out the storm to pass for an hour under the highway.

Tokyo River Friends was founded in early 2017 by members of Jambo International in order to focus on regular monthly clean ups of Tokyo area rivers, which was an expansion of several clean up events per year that Jambo had been doing for two decades as part of its broader environmental activities.
