Eight volunteers collected 34 bags of trash (26 actual bags and about 8 bags equivalent of big items) at Wednesday’s special event. There were 6 students and an administrator from Winthrop University in South Carolina, who were visiting Japan for a week. Participants made a great effort completing Part 1 of cleaning the back side of the island under the C2 highway from the Funabori Bridge all the way to the Dirty Angle. Then after a break riverside Part 2 consisted of cleaning the Dirty Angle. Although not super dirty as we generally clean it weekly, there was gomi to be gotten, and someone had dumped a refrigerator into the river–Who does that? The students seemed to have enjoyed the event and were eager to get their photo taken with Sky Tree in the background.
